This is the travel bag handmade from Moroccan goatskin leather in one of the oldest tanneries in Marrakesh using centuries-old techniques. Prized by European bookbinders since the late 16th century for its strength and penchant for highlighting gilding, Moroccan goatskin leather is famous for the traditional methods used to derive its classic smooth, pebble-grained hand and rich, dark color. Tanned in the ancient city center, the goatskin used in this bag undergoes a traditional five-step tanning process that involves scraping the hides with pottery shards and softening them with alum, oil, and water before applying plant-based dye. Its zippered opening is flanked by leather pull tabs; an internal 8" L x 5" H zippered pocket contrasts with the Ottoman pattern-inspired cotton lining. Double-stitched and riveted leather handles and an adjustable shoulder strap that secures to D-rings using brass spring-loaded bolt snaps provide sturdy, reliable carrying.
